Ingredients

  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups broccoli florets
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup water or beef broth
  • 2 cups cooked white rice optional, for serving

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water (or beef broth) to create the sauce. Set aside.
  • Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced beef and cook for 2–3 minutes until browned. Remove and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add a little more oil if necessary, then sauté garlic (and ginger if using) until fragrant.
  • Add the broccoli florets and a splash of water to the pan. Cover and steam for 2–3 minutes until the broccoli is tender but still crisp.
  • Return the beef to the pan, then pour in the sauce. Stir to combine and cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli.
  • Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry hot with steamed rice or noodles if desired.
