Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment or silicone mats.
In a large bowl, cream softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar on medium speed until light and fluffy, 2–3 minutes. Scrape the bowl.
Beat in eggs one at a time until smooth, then mix in vanilla.
In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix on low just until no dry streaks remain (do not overmix).
Fold in chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
Scoop dough into 1½-tablespoon balls and place 2 inches apart on prepared sheets. Press a few extra chips on top for a bakery look, if desired.
Bake 9–11 minutes, until edges are lightly golden and centers still look slightly soft.
Cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack. Repeat with remaining dough.
Store airtight at room temperature up to 5 days, or freeze dough balls to bake later (add 1–2 minutes to bake time from frozen).
