Ingredients

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage mild or spicy, based on preference
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided
  • 1 loaf French bread cut into cubes
  • 1/2 cup milk whole milk preferred for creaminess
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions optional, for garnish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess grease.
  • Spread the bread cubes evenly in the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle the cooked sausage over the bread.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread and sausage, pressing down slightly to allow the bread to soak up the liquid.
  • Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheese over the casserole.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the top is golden and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let the casserole cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  • Garnish with green onions and serve warm. Enjoy!
