Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (1 stick)
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in the brown sugar, heavy cream, and salt. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring constantly.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and let the sauce simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly.
  • Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Let the sauce cool slightly before serving. It will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Transfer the cooled sauce to an airtight container or jar for storage.
