Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French or Italian bread
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • pinch red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, and black pepper (if using). Mix until smooth and well combined.
  • Slice the loaf of bread in half lengthwise. Place each half cut-side up on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or lightly greased foil.
  • Using a spatula, generously spread the garlic butter mixture over the cut sides of the bread. If desired, sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese and red pepper flakes over the buttered bread.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10–15 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the butter is bubbling.
  • For extra crispiness, broil the bread for an additional 1–2 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Slice into individual portions and serve warm.
