Ingredients

  • 1 loaf pound cake or sponge cake (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 pint fresh strawberries
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • optional crushed graham crackers or chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  • Wash, hull, and slice the strawberries. Toss them with granulated sugar in a bowl and let sit for 10–15 minutes to release their juices.
  • In a chilled mixing bowl, beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until soft peaks form.
  • Cut the pound cake or sponge cake into small cubes.
  • Layer the ingredients in individual trifle glasses or jars: Start with a layer of cake cubes at the bottom.
  • Add a layer of macerated strawberries over the cake cubes.
  • Top with a dollop of whipped cream, spreading it evenly.
  • Repeat the layers (cake, strawberries, whipped cream) until the glass is nearly full, finishing with a final layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Garnish with a fresh strawberry, crushed graham crackers, or chocolate shavings, if desired.
  • Refrigerate the assembled trifles for 15–30 minutes to let the flavors meld before serving.
