Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F/45°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried parsley)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic, or use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 4-5 minutes.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Roll each into a rope and tie into loose knots. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Cover with a towel and let the knots rise again for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Bake the knots for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in parsley and salt.
  • Brush the warm knots generously with the garlic butter topping after baking.
  • Serve warm with marinara sauce or your favorite Italian dishes.
