Ingredients

  • 4-6 hoagie rolls or sub sandwich bread hoagie rolls
  • 12 meatballs pre-cooked or homemade meatballs
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste fresh basil or parsley for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise, but don’t cut all the way through to create a pocket for the meatballs.
  • Spread a layer of marinara sauce inside each hoagie roll. Add 3-4 meatballs to each roll, followed by more marinara sauce on top.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over the meatballs. If using, add Parmesan cheese on top.
  • In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Brush this mixture over the top of each sandwich roll.
  • Arrange the sandwiches in a baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 15 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 5-7 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and the bread is golden brown.
  • Garnish with fresh basil or parsley and serve while hot.

Notes

For extra crunch, you can broil the sandwiches for an additional 2-3 minutes after baking.
