Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 packet taco seasoning mix (or 2 tbsp homemade)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 12 slider buns or Hawaiian rolls
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or Mexican blend)
  • 1/2 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/4 cup diced red onion
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional)
  • 1/4 cup salsa or pico de gallo (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder (optional)
  • 1 pinch salt (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped (optional garnish)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook for 3 minutes until soft.
  • Add ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in taco seasoning and water. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  • Slice slider buns horizontally and place bottom halves in a lightly greased 9×13 baking dish.
  • Toast bottom buns in the oven for 5 minutes (optional to prevent sogginess).
  • Spread half of the shredded cheese over the bottom buns, then top with taco meat.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the meat. Add optional toppings like tomatoes, lettuce, and onion.
  • Place top halves of buns over the fillings.
  • Mix melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Brush over the tops of the buns.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 5–7 minutes until golden.
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve with sour cream, salsa, or guacamole if desired.
