▢ 1 tbsp sesame oil ▢ 1 small onion, finely chopped ▢ 2 cloves garlic, minced ▢ 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced ▢ 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped ▢ 1 cup firm tofu, crumbled ▢ 1 red bell pepper, diced ▢ 1 cup water chestnuts, chopped ▢ 2 tbsp hoisin sauce ▢ 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari ▢ 1 tsp sriracha (optional) ▢ 2 green onions, sliced ▢ 1 head butter lettuce or romaine, separated into leaves ▢ fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Heat sesame oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, garlic, and ginger; sauté for 2–3 minutes until fragrant.
Add mushrooms and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
Stir in crumbled tofu, bell pepper, and water chestnuts. Cook for 3–4 minutes.
Add hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and sriracha. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes until everything is heated through.
Remove from heat and stir in sliced green onions.
Spoon the warm filling into lettuce leaves and garnish with chopped cilantro.
Serve immediately with extra sauce if desired.
